Austin, TX (Soultanieh.org) -- Our correspondent steps off the plane in Texas after a month of reporting from Soultanieh, where the crowd has virtually disappeared as people similarly fly out of Lebanon to meet their jobs and studies.
Like some others, Youssef Fakhreddine has loaded his camera with footage and mind with stories from the village. Unlike most others, he works for the Soultanieh web site for peanuts a day as well as our sincere appreciation.
Youssef intended to report to the Soultanieh web site as frequently as once a day, uploading stories and images. However, his attempts from home and cafes were let down by extremely slow internet connections. Stars Computer, a major distributor of mistranslated movie titles, installed a cable modem but wasn_??t fully operational at the time.
The village is still in Youssef_??s thoughts as he helps members with their accounts at University Federal Credit Union, a nation-wide bank famous in the US for its Wheels 101 pamphlet.
You can expect more news from him right here on Soultanieh's unoffical website, if not this year then in summer 2006! |
